STUDENT CREATES A MONSTER 23.06.2009 Rally, Motoring, Art News
A North Carolina student is set to receive a hefty fine after adapting a number of traffic barrels into roadside monster.
Joseph Carnevale, 21, was arrested last month for stealing the barrels valued at $360 and “cutting and screwing them together to make a statue.”
According to jalopnik.com, graffiti artist Carnevale – who creates under the name uliveuburn, was singled out as the culprit having been previously admitting to painting the Boylan Bridge Angry Man (pictured below) on an industrial tower in his hometown of Raleigh.
Speaking to local student website, technicianonline.com, Carnevale said of his latest incarnation: “I kidnapped a couple of barrels – a few at a time because they’re really big – brought them back to my place, laid them out in my living room. My roommate was sitting there shaking his head at me because he knows I’m an idiot. I cut them up, using screws this time rather than duct tape because it doesn’t hold as well as you’d like.”
The monster was though not the artist’s first beast to be shaped from barrels. Carnevale also recently created a giant lizard, that was too big to fit in his car. “That thing involved many large pieces,” he claimed. “I drove to campus with it strapped to the roof of my car, which was a little conspicuous.”
Carnevale is set to appear in court on 21st July. Watch this space for the outcome.
